They are against the govt. move to unify food rates in hotels across Kerala.
The Kerala Hotel & Restaurant Association (KHRA) has called a one-day strike on June 29 against the government move to unify the rates of food items in hotels across the state.
A statement by the association said the government move, despite no aid being provided whatsoever by the state or Centre for the business, is condemnable.
“The government is offering no subsidy or any kind of assistance that is offered for small business enterprises. Over 1.5 crore people are utilize the services of 1.25 lakh hotels per day in the state. When the government is not able to control the price of raw materials, it is highly objectionable that it is trying to unify the price of food items in hotels and restaurants,” the statement said.
The association said the citizens have their right to exercise his choice in the variety and quality of food products. Moreover, if the government reduces the prices, the hotels will be forced to compromise on the quality of the food being served. When the government is unable to provide raw materials at a subsidised price to the hotels even for one month, the government should not expect the hotels to sell the food at reduced prices, it said.
