Due to the lockdown necessitated by COVID-19, meal crisis was being faced by the poor, marginal workers, daily wage earners and migrants across the nation. NRAI, with a vast infrastructure of available kitchens and restaurants of its partners across the country, initiated and put into motion an idea to produce and distribute meals in coordination with various authorities and NGOs during the period of lockdown under #FeedTheNeedy programme. The meals costed anywhere between Rs 20 to Rs 25 per head and the financial resources for this initiative were partially crowd-funded.

Thanks to the marvellous efforts of NRAI members, over 6.7 Million or Sixty Seven Lakh Meals were served in approximately 50 days. The common and noble cause of #FeedTheNeedy truly brought together the best of India’s Restaurant Community together. This was in line with the clarion call given by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, urging people to show compassion towards the larger community.

It was also a great honour for #FeedTheNeedy initiative to be recognised by Worlds 50 Best as one of the top 50 effective campaigns for the hospitality industry in the world.
