Sassoon Dock to soon get restaurants for tourists’ convenience

on

Sassoon Docks, an ignored landmark of Mumbai will be partially spruced to have restaurants providing various cuisines. These restaurants will be opened soon at the buildings inside the dock premises, for which bids have been floated.

As per the plans, with the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) four buildings inside Sassoon Docks will be leased out on long-term lease basis. “The allotment will be made to the successful eligible bidder, who offers highest premium over and above the base lease rent. The long term lease for the structures covered under subject tender is Rs1.70 crore annually with escalation of 4 per cent every year,” said an MbPT official.

Although, Rs1.70 crore has been kept as reserve price, authorities expect the actual bid to be much more given the waterfront space and bigger area being provided for an eatery.

The long lease would be for a period of 15 years and will be renewable for another 15 years, thus a maximum of 30 years. In all, a total built up area of 995 sq. mtrs on a plot of 1,035 sq. mtr will be given out to the private party.

This is a part of the larger port land development plans of the Ministry of Shipping to have more tourist destinations, particularly at the waterfront.

The entire bidding process should take another four months to complete. Thereafter, the winning bidder will need another couple of months to repair the place and set up the restaurant. Therefore, it will be ready to serve patrons only by mid next year.

In the months to come, more tenders are likely to be floated to unroll plans of port land development. This includes having marina, tourist village, 10-km long waterfront walkway, eco-park, garden, bigger international cruise terminal, convention centre, water sports, flotels, etc.
