Pubs to record your biometric info before entry

GURUGRAM: To check crime and make nightlife in city safe, the Gurugram police is planning to install camera-fitted biometric machines in all the pubs and lounges across the city.

According to police, the move will not only keep a record of fingerprints of the visitors but also store his/her image in the machine. Other than keeping a tab, it will help police to identify daily visitors, trail and nab drug-peddlers, sex traders who in the garb of being visitors run their illegal businesses from the pubs and lounges.

“We have constituted a special committee to work out a plan to make Gurugram a safe party hub. The team is researching on ways pubs in other cities like Mumbai and Bangalore function. Yes biometric machines are a success in places like Europe and America that not only allows police and pub authorities to keep a check on anti-social elements, but in a crime case the details work as an important evidence,” said commissioner of police KK Rao.

Sources informed that the police department plans to start installing these devices from MG Road pubs.

When asked, Rao said, “We receive maximum number of complaints from MG Road area, so we will start our drive from there. The panel’s report will be completed before Christmas so that the measures can be put in place before the festivities begin.

It may be noted, the police recently busted several gangs who were operating flesh trade from MG Road pubs.

“The measures will not only be beneficial for police or residents but also pub owners blacklist frequent trouble makers. We expect full cooperation from them,” Rao said.
