Nando’s to open 30 outlets in India over 5 years

South African restaurant chain Nando’s is planning to open 30 more outlets in India in the next five years to further expand presence here.

The company, which presently has 11 outlets in India, plans to open around six restaurants every year.

“We want to make this market as big as the UK, which is like a billion plus dollar market,” Nando’s Restaurant India CEO, Sumeet Yadav told PTI.

Yadav, however, did not share a timeline on how soon can that scale be achieved.

Elaborating on the company’s expansion strategy, Yadav said: “Our plan is to open 5-6 restaurants every year, but since we are not a franchise-run operation, we open only when we get a good location, and if we go by this plan, we should have 30 stores in the next five years.”

However, he did not disclose how much the company will invest to increase its retail presence.

The company has currently five restaurants in Delhi, two in Bangalore, two in Chennai and two in Punjab.

Besides opening new outlets, Nando’s is also working to sell its range of sauces in independent retail stores in India from May this year.

Earlier, Nando’s sauces were available for consumption only at its outlets.

“For the sauce, in the next five years, what we are looking is at least to have on the official way two million bottles and enter one million households in India,” Nando’s Grocery Division Director, David Care said.

He further said: “The plan for the next two years would be to be in more than 2,000 stores in India.
