Kolkata: Foodpanda, one of the leading online food aggregators, is giving a major push to delivery-based business to stay ahead of its competitors. The co-founder and CEO of foodpanda.in, Sourabh Kochhar, told reporters here that the delivery-based online order will be 50% of its business revenue wise by end of this year.
Foodpanda entered into logistics business in February last year. Kochar said that that currently 40% of its volume is coming from delivery and the average revenue from the deli-very business is more than only online ordering. The CEO pointed out that the online food ordering company has already started making money at the operational level. “In India, we have already tied up with 10,000-12,000 restaurants across 250 cities,” he added.
According to Kochhar, the pick order on a day for Foodpanda was 70,000 recorded earlier this year. “In Bengal, we are in Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri along with Kolkata. On an average 60% of the orders is for non-veg and 40% is for vegetarian food. The average ticket size for the order is Rs 400- 450.” he added.
Kochhar believes that soon the online food-ordering industry would constitute a major chunk of the whole food business. The food ordering industry in India is $15 billion and online is only 1% of that. The company is looking for another round of funding in the next few months following which the stake of the founders is likely to go down below 50%.
