Karnataka drank 26 millions cases of beer, AIBA expects consumption to grow to 8.5 crore cases this year.

In 2015, Bengaluru consumed 7.8 crore litres of beer, and with summer already making an early entry in 2016, the All India Brewers Association estimates this year’s beer consumption will be on the rise.

According to the association’s data, over 26 million cases of beer were consumed in Karnataka last year with Bengaluru drinking 10 million cases. “The city has a lot of young crowd, disposable income and people who want choices mainly in beer. There are a good number of local brands and five foreign brands,” said Shobhan Roy, Director General, AIBA.

Ashish Kothare, Bengaluru chapter head, NRAI and owner of the RoadHouse restaurant on 100 feet road, believes that Bengaluru’s beer drinkers have increased in the last few years. “The sales of beer have definitely gone up in the city with the summers becoming longer and winters turning shorter. Many don’t feel like going in for hard alcohol,” he said.

Beer has become the choice of drink for both men and women. AIBA experts expect the beer consumption figures in the city to climb to 8.5 crore litres by the end of 2016.
