4 places in Delhi that serve the best food from Kerala

on

From moilees to appams, these Delhi restaurants have every flavour from Kerala on offer.

Only a real foodie with dedication would know this, but every South Indian state has very distinct flavours to offer. If you’re one of those who think South Indian food means just dosas, idlis and sambhars, Delhi’s many restaurants and eateries that serve authentic dishes from Kerala will surprise you.

This South Indian state has the best of every food world you can imagine. They don’t just have vegetarian delicacies like the appams and pachadis, but also a wide variety of Malabari fish moilees and red meat dishes as well.

So if you want to try out the flavours of Kerala, just head to these restaurants in the Capital.

1. Mahabelly

Authentic, ample and lip-smackingly delicious–that’s how we can define the food at Mahabelly. This restaurant in Saket has a menu that will take you to God’s Own Country straight away.

Indulge in a plate Kodala curry, mutton Varattiyathu or Shaapu Meen curry with a side of Idiyappam or Puttu, and you’ll know what food heaven means. Round the meal off with some Chukku Kaapi, and you’ll be satiated like never before.

2. The Toddy Shop

This little South Indian gem in Hauz Khas Village has a number of favourites on offer. We would recommend the Erachi Varathadu, Moru Kootan and the Malabar Kozhi Korma for a really good meal.

Their Karimeen fry brings in a flavour that you might have seen in food shows by Vikas Khanna and David Rocco, and they’re clearly must-haves. End the meal here with their Madakku San–coconut and jaggery stuffed pancakes–and you won’t regret a bit of it.

3. Samridhi, Kerala House

Most State Houses in the Capital are famed for serving authentic food from Indian states, and Kerala House is one of them. Pocket-friendly and full of mouth-watering delicacies, this place can be a haven for you even when you’re close to being broke.

Their thalis are simply delicious, and the vegetarian one is a as good as the non-veg one. Meat lovers can indulge in authentic Keralan dishes with everything from mutton, chicken and fish on offer.

4. Coast Cafe

Another Hauz Khas restaurant, Coast Cafe offers dishes that will take you on a refined trip to Kerala. This restaurant offer continental and coastal delicacies, so you’ll be spoiled for choice.

But if you’re looking to stick to just Keralan dishes, try their Malabari Cokum Mixed Veggie Curry, Laidback Fish Moilee and appams with a variety of chutneys. Finish the meal with their Filter Coffee, which is true to its Keralan roots.

If you’ve been thinking of taking a break from work and heading off to God’s Own Country for a little vacay–but haven’t been able to manage the time or the finances–you can do it by just heading to these restaurants in Delhi. Trust us when we say that your trip will be totally worth it.
