MUMBAI: In a joint meeting on Wednesday, the BMC chief, civic officials concerned and the police commissioner agreed in principle to implement the policy that would allow restaurants and shops to remain open 24×7 in select places in the city. After the meeting, civic chief Praveen Pardeshi and police commissioner Sanjay Barve went to the Sahyadri guesthouse to brief chief minister Uddhav Thackeray about details of who will take the final decision on the policy.

Shiv Sena has been pushing for 24×7 shopping and dining since 2013 with the support of party MLA and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray. BJP, too, had earlier sought to keep shops open at night at select places. On Tuesday, Congress had also made a similar request to the civic commissioner.
