No food delivery by e-caterers on trains? Now, get Rs 100 as compensation

NEW DELHIHave you got your food delivered in long-distance trains booked via the e-catering services? If not, don’t worry, you can get a discount coupon of Rs 100 as compensation for the poor service by the caterer.

Since July, Indian Railways have been offering Rs 100 discount coupon as compensation.

“We realised that a mere note of regret of apology is not enough. There has to be some cost on the caterers for causing inconvenience to the passengers. Passengers can redeem their discount coupon on their next order,” a railway official told TOI.

Almost 500 caterers, restaurants etc empanelled with the IRCTC to serve the passengers.

According to the official, the order could be delayed owing to traffic jams or the train may have halted for fewer minutes. He feels that this is a unique initiative as food app services operating within the city also do not offer such discount in case of delay or cancellations.

As per the report, a total of 85496 orders placed since July under the IRCTC west zone. All train originating or passing via Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, LTT, CSMT, Kalyan etc are fall under the IRCTC west zone in Mumbai.

Till now, the railways have issued a discount coupon to 3154 passengers of which around 195 have redeemed their coupon.

As per IRCTC catering policy, prior to 2 hours of delivery, booking of a meal can be revised/cancelled. No revision/cancellation is permitted within 2 hours of the scheduled arrival time of the train at the selected station. Also, Cancellation is not allowed at the time of delivery of the pre-ordered meal.
