In Hubballi as many as 500 hotels and restaurants and 180 bars and restaurants, 250 bakeries and sweet marts and more than 4,000 street food vendors are on strike.
HUBBALLI: All restaurants, bars, and eateries are closed in Hubballi-Dharwad today condemning recent attack on hotel owner and manager in Hubballi.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Hotel Owners Association has called for bandh, as result more than 6,000 establishments which serve food in the twin cities are closed.
Hubballi Hotel Owners Association claimed that in the last three months more than 96 cases of atrocities on hotel staff were reported. Recently a hotel owner, manager and other staff were assaulted by some customers over serving Biriyani in a hotel near Basava Vana.
Sudharkar Shetty President of Hubballi Hotel Owners Association told The New Indian Express that the recent incident of attack is just an example. The hotel and restaurant owners are facing serious problems by anti social elements to run their business in the twin cities. “Many requests were made to police department to take steps to prevent harassment hotel staffs and owners but was of no use. The recent attack on hotel owner and staff made us to go for one day Bandh,” he said and added that not only in Hubballi and Dharwad hotels, street food sellers and bars are closed in Kalghtagi and Kundagol town also.
Shetty said, “The state association also supported our Bandh, as a result hotels and restaurants serving food by wearing black ribbon on their arms in the other parts of state.”
He said, they would take out protest march in Hubballi and Dharwad and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Tahsildar. In other districts office bearers of the association do the same, he said.
