Hotel, restaurant owners stop taking orders via Swiggy

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Hotel and Restaurant Association has decided not to take orders via online food delivery app Swiggy Friday onwards. However, the association said it will keep accepting orders from Zomato and Uber Eats.

The hotel and restaurant owners are reportedly upset over the current 22 percent commission rate charged by these online apps.

The decision to boycott the food delivery app was taken following a meeting with the representatives of Swiggy and Zomato. In the meeting, while Zomato sought some more time to think over the proposal, Swiggy refused to give in to the demand by the hotel and restaurant owners.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association also announced to support the restaurants which have signed annual contracts with the food delivery companies.

The minister of energy, Saurabh Patel, who was also present during the meeting, assured his cooperation to the hotel and restaurant owners.

Narendra Somani, a leader of the association, said that the hotel association needs to fight Swiggy and Zomato just like they did to Oyo and Go Ibibo.
