While monsoons can dampen most of the usual human spirits, Delhi has found ways to excite and entice its gourmands this season with food experiences that will make one brave the maddening traffic and in some cases, get it to their homes. The gastronomic culture in the capital is fast paving the way for concepts that will enthral its ever-demanding audience with this exciting line-up of new experiences. Vogue gives you a round-up of six new spices in this brewing concoction.

SLY GRANNY

Hi-Tea-Sly-Granny

With its first successful innings in Bangalore, Sly Granny opens itself to Delhi with a narrative of the rather posh and clandestine life of its namesake, in an intimate and welcoming space nestled in the bustling Khan Market neighbourhood. The ambience transports one to the frozen-in-time living room of the Granny (amidst a few risqué wallpapers featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger), and puts a European-influenced menu forth, featuring immaculately crafted recipes. The pearly Barley Salad is a star among the appetisers along with the Baked Brie and Peaches, and is followed by the luscious Barcelona Shrimps in the tapas menu. The mains feature the unmissable signature Biscuits and Gravy, along with a Mushroom Pot-Pie that has all it takes to boast of a cult following come winters. While a special high tea menu is expected with a name like theirs, the cocktails steal the show, with the Posh G&T being a truthful winner.

Sly Granny opens on August 2, 2018 at Flat No 4, Khan Market, New Delhi. Tel: 09650702792

YOU MEE

Overnight-Braised-Pork-Ribs

It’s not everyday that one walks into a neighbourhood restaurant and discovers a world of Manga painted on the walls. YOU MEE captures this cult world of Manga comics and serves it on a platter of comforting robata and ramen. With a relaxed casual approach to the atmosphere and a quick service, YOU MEE delivers the familiar Japanese and pan Asian staples with depth of flavours. Venture away from the sushi and dimsums, and opt for the silky Cheung Funs (the Canton Chicken features the perfect crunch), the perfectly cooked robata items (the pork ribs fall off the bone!) and the action-packed YOU MEE Signature Ramen—one will be converted into a regular for these!

YOU MEE is now open at M-27, ground floor, M block market, Greater Kailash 2, New Delhi. Tel: 08130266695

OLLY – Olive’s All Day Cafe

3.-Bangkok-Curry-Bowl

Gurgaon’s Cyber Hub is no stranger to gastronomic options that suit the on-the-move lives of the thousands thronging the spot on a daily basis. The house of Olive presents its all-day café to add a new dimension to DLF Cyber Hub with an easy, casual dining experience. While the brunch menu—with its cereals, eggs and waffles—will attract breakfast lovers on weekdays and weekends alike, the dinner menu features a scintillating Korean Fried Chicken and Open Prawn Tacos with the softest taco shell with mango salsa and avocado. But the real jewel in the menu lies on the desserts list—The French Toast, a lyrical pairing of soft brioche with a velvety dark chocolate ganache, salted caramel with a sprinkling of berries and nuts, will drive any work day blues away in a jiffy.

Olly is now open at 101, First Floor, DLF Cyber Hub, Gurgaon, and has a grab-and-go counter as well. Tel: 08130838811

SHIBUYA

poke-bowl

Anyone who has been to Tokyo would know the relevance that the Shibuya Crossing has for the city, and the drama that unfolds every moment the crossing opens up. But beyond that bustle, the crossing is a melting pot of the country’s gastronomic offerings.  Delhi witnesses this drama unfolding in its newest Japanese sake bar and restaurant, Shibuya. Conceptualised as a modern dining space with minimalistic decor, the talking point for the restaurant is its menu lined with Japanese favourites—fresh sushi and gyozas will surely be staples for the regulars, but it’s the Poke Bowls that add that layer of newness to the usual Japanese menus in town. Deconstructed like art, the Spicy Salmon Bowl and the Kinoko Poke Bowl with mushrooms are supremely flavourful melanges. The starters feature punch-filled Bang Bang Shrimps (no pun intended) that will win the heart with its spicy togarashi mayo. With a selection of sakes to choose from, one would find themselves losing to the smoothness of the sake, while reminiscing the vibe of true Shibuya.

Shibuya is now open at First Floor, M-63 , Greater Kailash II, New Delhi. Tel: 09910475615 011-40366262

MOOD

There is always a special place for soul food from the northeast India in every Delhiite’s platter. Kusuma Juneja, a home chef who’s been cooking for her family for decades, opened her doors to the palates of the city with Mood, a take-away service featuring her delicious home-cooking. The menu features classics such as momos (stuffed with pork and bacon, but she also has vegetarian options), Smoked Pork, Ema Datchi, Aloo Ka Achaar with the softest Tingmo and perfectly sweetened Khapse for desserts.
