Anjan Chatterjee

CEO, Speciality Restaurants Ltd

Anjan Chatterjee was born in 1959 in a family of scholars in Kolkata. He went on to complete his graduation from Calcutta University and studied at the Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Kolkata in 1982. Hospitality was a childhood passion and the institute gave him the formal training he required to follow his dream.

His first job was with the Taj Group of Hotels where he had his first hands on exposure in the F&B industry. Anjan Chatterjee went on to fresh pastures in marketing. A stint with a reputed publication house (Anand Bazar Patrika) armed him with marketing skills which proved beneficial throughout his entrepreneurial career. In 1986, Anjan Chatterjee set up an agency called Situations Advertising and Marketing Services Pvt Ltd. He has directly worked with many entrepreneurs like Mr. M.P Ramachandran (Jyothy Laboratories Ltd.), Mr. G.D. Rathod (Cello Group), Mr. Sanjeev Shah (Everest Masala), Mr. R.S. Agarwal and Mr. Mohan Goenka (Emami) and helped them in building formidable brands like Ujala, Cello, Fair & Handsome, Everest, Yardley, Vasmol, Streax amongst many others.

With his core strength in marketing & advertising, his passion for food led to creation of a company called Speciality Restaurants Pvt. Ltd. (now Speciality Restaurants Ltd.). In a span of over two decades it’s now the largest chain of  fun & fine dining restaurants in India with over 120 outlets in over 27 cities in India and abroad with brands like Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Café Mezzuna, Sigree Global Grill, Hoppipola, Sweet Bengal amongst others. Speciality Restaurants Ltd. entered the Indian Capital markets in May 2012 as being the only restaurant chain India to do so.

A hands-on approach to work and a great love for his job marks Anjan Chatterjee’s career, be it in advertising or in the restaurant business.

Situations Advertising has received the Subhash Ghoshal brand award from the Advertising Club of India.

Anjan Chatterjee received the first Teacher’s Achievement Award in leading the way in many aspects of entrepreneurship.

He has been awarded as “Most Admired Food Service Personality of the year” by Food Forum India 2012.

The greatest reward for passion is work itself. But once in a while, others in the trade or industry or the general public recognize the passion and drive, in the form of awards and accolades. They are milestones in Anjan Chatterjee personal and professional journey.
