The perilous state of Church Street seems to be finally outweighing its USP: the sheer variety of the menu that its scores of eateries offer. Road users are cribbing that drives and rides on the road pockmarked with potholes have turned back-breaking, while traversing it on foot has become a virtual tight-rope act, while pubs and restaurants are complaining of dent in business.
Vanessa S, who visits Church Street’s famed pubs and bars regularly on weekends, said, “Every time it pours, there is a sewage pools all over the road beginning from the Brigade Road side. Walking on the broken, slippery pavements is a nightmare given that four-wheelers and two-wheelers end up splashing the dirty water on us.”Church Street gets unbearable after the first rains. Not just the sewage but also potholes make it impossible for commute to be possible, especially for pedestrians” said Saneet Chakradeo, a management consultant.
