Restaurateurs: It’s a matter of survival, lift night curfew

NEW DELHI: With Delhi reporting less than 500 Covid cases in a day and the positivity rate also falling below 1%, restaurateurs in the city have requested the authorities to lift the night curfew and seating restrictions immediately.

Most outlets have seen a decent turnout over the past few days and suggest that if the curbs are lifted soon, restaurants, bars and clubs will be able to recover some of the lockdown losses and also not lose business to the adjoining Noida and Gurgaon that have lifted timing restrictions.

The head of the Delhi chapter of National Restaurant Association of India, Priyank Sukhija, said high energy bars and clubs were losing almost 40% of their business due to the night curfew. Most newly opened places need official support as a lot of investment have gone into making them operational despite lockdowns, he said. Joy Singh of Raasta also said the night curfew was having a bigger impact since Gurgaon and Noida had lifted their curfew.

Restaurateurs argued that Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurgaon and Noida hadn’t seen any spike in Covid cases since lifting the night curfew.
