In a unique initiative to boost voter turnout in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Pune Chapter has launched the “Democracy Discount” program. On November 20th and 21st, voters can avail of a 20% discount on their total dine-in bill at participating restaurants across Pune by presenting their voter ID and an inked finger as proof of voting .
This initiative comes at a critical time, as Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has expressed concerns over low urban voter turnout. The NRAI’s drive aims to motivate young urban voters to actively engage in the democratic process and make their voices heard. Around 60 restaurants in Pune have confirmed their participation in this initiative, making it a city-wide effort to encourage voting.
To avail of the discount, dine-in customers must show their voter ID with Pune residency and proof of voting via an inked finger. Saili Jahagirdar, NRAI Pune Chapter Head, expressed gratitude to participating brands and restaurants for their enthusiastic support. “This initiative is designed to inspire young urban voters to participate in the voting process and celebrate our vibrant democratic system,” Jahagirdar said while speaking to the media.
The NRAI, founded in 1982, represents over 500,000 restaurants and works to promote and strengthen the Indian Food Service Sector. This innovative campaign aims to create awareness about the importance of democratic participation. By offering discounts, the NRAI hopes to encourage young voters to exercise their right and make their voices heard.
With the Maharashtra Assembly elections underway, this initiative is a welcome move to boost voter turnout. By combining civic duty with dining discounts, the NRAI Pune Chapter is making voting a rewarding experience for citizens in Pune.
