BMC legalizes roof-top restaurants in Mumbai

on

BMC chief Ajoy Mehta has legalized rooftop open air restaurant policy. This laudable move comes one and half months after a high level delegation from National Restaurant Association of India’s Mumbai Chapter met with the Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis presenting pressing issues the restaurant industry has been grappling with including closure of rooftop restaurants.

This high powered meeting, held on September 18, was facilitated by Member of Parliament Poonam Mahajan. Along with municipal corporation commissioner Ajoy Mehta, NRAI’s meeting also had presence of additional chief secretary Pravin Pardeshi, additional chief secretary Sudhir Shrivastav and Mumbai police commissioner Datta Padselgikar.

After the meeting Mahajan also tweeted, “The Hon. CM is committed to making Mumbai an entertainment & Food hub and has proposed amongst other things a pilot for extending the operating hours for restaurants in non residential zones, Policy for Food Trucks, & regulations for roof-top restaurants.” NRAI is extremely grateful to her for the efforts made for improving operating conditions for restaurants for the industry to thrive.

With this development which will allow restaurants, bars and cafes to operate on terraces, NRAI is very optimistic and hoping to work with the government and authorities to restore Mumbai’s position as the culture capital of India.
